Do you remember when……..
…we really got to know each other by connecting face to face and we would share our loves, our joys and our sorrows.
…..time did not shot by and we had time to wait for replies over the landlines or via a letter.
…..we did not need to know right now and life gently moved forward.
…our children did not live in their rooms, they wanted to interact, they wanted to be a part of the family, they wanted to feel part of the team and they would do what they could to do that.
….food was a real source of nourishment, it took time to produce and was made by families, people who loved to bake and people who loved being a butcher.
….our farmers did not need to use chemicals to grow our foods and they knew about crop rotations and the importance of organic matter.
… kids were happy climbing trees and we were happy they were outside exploring and if they broke their arm, that was part of life.
….we let our kids run naked
….we took responsibility for our actions and we did not feel the need to sue other people because it is ‘their fault’.
….we trusted people, we looked out for other people, we spoke to strangers.
….we had simple solutions to simple problems.
…we listened to our bodies and we knew what was best for us and our family, rather than asking a man in a white coat who knew nothing about us what was best for us.
….we had time for gratitude and appreciation
…having body hair was acceptable and natural
….all grapes had seeds
….vegetables were only on our supermarket shelves when they were in season and not being stored in fridges for months on end.
…you did not need a license to dig a hole for water, for your cat or dog and when you died you died and did not have to have a court of law to tell you so.
….we sent our kids outside to play
….obesity, polycystic ovaries, ADD and Autism were not in the English dictionary.
….people did not die from bees, nor eating nuts
….we left our houses unlocked
….boys did not grow breasts
…..chickens took months to grow, not days
…..8 year old girls did not reach puberty
…..we knew the value of Mother Nature, her wisdom, her friendship and her healing
….we could talk with plants and animals and we knew and respected them as teaching us and not the other way round
I am sure you have many more and feel free to share. I am not far from 50 years old and I remember all these clearly. Where are we going?
We are driving ourselves there and we have the power and choices to change all the things we are not happy about.
